The XAP Technology Formula FOV3 steering wheel combines a sunlight-readable display with customisable controls for motorsport manufacturers, integrators and teams. It brings essential information and driver settings together while adapting to the vehicle architecture. Its Hall effect paddles and rotary selectors provide contactless operation with no contact wear and consistent repeatability, while DashEditor makes it easier to create a display configuration tailored to each project.
The FOV3 adapts to both driver and vehicle with a choice of 1 to 6 paddles, ten backlit push buttons and up to five rotary selectors. The three front rotary selectors provide 10 positions each, while the two selectors located on top of the steering wheel provide 6 positions each. This arrangement gives the driver direct access to essential functions without adding remote controls throughout the cockpit.
XAP manufactures the FOV3 carbon-polyamide housing and front panel entirely in-house. XAP can also customise the front panel by laser-engraving a logo or image, adapt the appearance of the buttons and supply the steering wheel with either a central or remote connector. The mounting configuration accommodates most quick-release systems available on the market, including Sadev, SPA Design and Momo, subject to validation of the selected interface.
DashEditor compatibility makes it possible to build a display configuration from scratch or adapt an existing configuration. Integrators can organise the displayed information around the driver’s requirements and update the layout as the project evolves. The FOV3 also communicates via CAN with all engine control units available on the market.
For simulation projects, the FOV3 is compatible with Assetto Corsa, rFactor 1 and 2, and iRacing.
The FOV3 integrates into an 8.5 to 18.5 V architecture and exchanges data via CAN 2.0B. XAP makes it easier to adapt the steering wheel to the vehicle through DashEditor, a choice of central or remote connection, and several paddle and rotary selector configurations.
The steering wheel features a CAN 2.0B bus with termination enabled or disabled according to the configuration. Before installation, validate the wiring, protection devices, CAN termination, communication rate, mechanical mounting and ECU compatibility with the selected configuration.
