XAP Technology SWX steering wheel - configurable controls and integrated display

The XAP Technology SWX steering wheel combines display, driver controls and CAN communication for single-seaters and racing prototypes. It helps the driver keep essential information and functions within reach during every session. XAP offers two finishes: aluminium housing and front plate, or aluminium housing with a carbon front plate.

The SWX combines a sunlight-readable 4.3-inch TFT LCD screen with ten RGB LEDs that can be used for engine speed or alarms. Six backlit buttons and two Hall-effect rotary switches support fast driver actions. Depending on the selected configuration, the wheel can be equipped with two or three Hall-effect paddles.

The carbon front plate version reduces the announced weight to approximately 1,200 g with two paddles, compared with approximately 1,300 g for the full aluminium version. XAP can adapt button colours, paddle count and steering column mounting to the project. Laser engraving of the front face is also available.

For electronic integration, the SWX provides two CAN lines, paddle outputs and an optocoupled radio output. The embedded configuration supports mathematical channels and open settings. The CAN protocol can be defined for the vehicle architecture and can use a DBC file for easier integration.

Technical integration

The SWX integrates into vehicle architectures powered from 8 to 18 V. XAP can adapt the steering column mounting to several quick release solutions and provide a spiral harness with connector. The installer defines CAN configuration, termination, command wiring and options according to the ECU, harness and vehicle equipment.

The wheel exchanges data through two CAN / CAN FD lines, with software-selectable termination and configurable bitrate. DBC file import allows fast integration with CAN protocols from different ECUs.

The supplied pinout identifies an Amphenol 451 02YS14-19P50 connector. Signal labels must be checked against the harness manufacturing documentation before wiring.
