GT RX RALLY STEERING WHEEL - 2 PADDLES - 7 BUTTONS

XAP Technology GT-Rx steering wheel – dedicated CAN controls for the Clio 98

The XAP Technology GT-Rx steering wheel brings together the essential controls for a competition Clio 98. Its seven push buttons allow the driver to operate the lights, windscreen wiper, washer, display page selection, pit limiter and gear selection. The GT-Rx therefore centralises the actions required on track and transmits them through a fixed CAN protocol tailored to the documented configuration.

Each control has a distinct label and colour for quick identification. The state of every button — pressed or released — is transmitted over CAN according to predefined behaviours. A seventh free push button remains outside the CAN system; once suitably wired, the integrator can assign it to a function such as the radio, a Sirocco blower or a driver hydration pump.

The GT-Rx can be fitted with two optional paddles: the right paddle commands upshifts and the left paddle commands downshifts. Hall-effect sensing removes mechanical contact from the detection process. The project document also specifies the combinations used to select first gear, neutral and reverse in the relevant application.

Key features

  • 330 mm SABELT steering wheel fitted with an XAP control panel.
  • Seven front push buttons: six CAN controls and one free push button outside the CAN system.
  • Fixed CAN protocol.
  • Two optional Hall-effect paddles for upshifts and downshifts.
  • 6 to 26 V supply voltage range.
  • Souriau UT0W-0-10-6SH6 connector.

Technical specifications and integration

The GT-Rx connects to the vehicle electrical architecture through a 6–26 V power supply and a CAN bus.

Integration

The steering wheel transmits the actions of the LIGHT, GEAR, PAGE, PIT, WIPER and CLEAN controls over CAN.

Technical specifications
Specification Value
Supply voltage 6 to 26 V
Communication CAN, fixed protocol
Front controls 7 push buttons: LIGHT, GEAR, PAGE, PIT, free control, WIPER and CLEAN
Paddles 2 optional Hall-effect paddles: right/UP and left/DOWN
Connector Souriau UT0W-0-10-6SH6, 6 pins
Controls and fixed CAN protocol
Control Colour Communication Documented behaviour
LIGHT Yellow CAN Short press: headlight flash or dipped-beam control, depending on the architecture. First long press: switches on the main beam or headlamps together with the rear position lights. Second long press: switches them off together with the rear position lights.
GEAR Blue CAN Control used with the first gear, neutral and reverse selection sequences detailed below.
PAGE Black CAN One press advances the dashboard to the next page.
PIT Red CAN One press activates the pit limiter; the next press deactivates it.
Free control Green Outside CAN, not wired The contact remains active while the button is pressed. Once suitably wired, this control can be used for functions such as the radio, a Sirocco blower or a driver hydration pump.
WIPER Orange CAN Short press: one complete wipe cycle followed by a return to position 0. First long press: continuous operation at maximum speed. Second long press: stops the wiper and returns it to position 0.
CLEAN White CAN The wiper and windscreen washer operate together while the button is pressed. When the button is released, the wiper returns to position 0.
Gear selection sequences with the optional paddles (specific to the Clio 98)
Transition Documented action
R → N GEAR, reverse solenoid release, then UP
N → 1 GEAR + UP
1 → N GEAR + DOWN
N → R GEAR, reverse solenoid release, DOWN and speed equal to 0

The driver must disengage the clutch for all four sequences, as the document does not provide for electronic clutch control. In manual shift mode, the same strategy replaces the paddle action with movement of the manual gear lever.

Main connector pinout

The supplied diagram identifies the C3 Souriau UT0W-0-10-6SH6 connector. Its supply marker is labelled “+12 Volts PIS VBatt”, while the stated operating range for the product is 6 to 26 V.
